Dhamma Vipassana Center

Developed a climate-responsive passive design strategy for a Vipassana meditation centre, improving thermal comfort through ventilation, shading, and envelope optimisation while minimising dependence on mechanical cooling.

•Indoor temperature reduction: up to 2.94°C on hottest day and 1.05°C on coldest day through passive measures alone
•Envelope Performance Factor (EPF): reduced to 689.7 with optimized wall, roof, and insulation configurations
•Ventilation effectiveness: significant improvement via cross + stack ventilation, clerestory optimization, and baffle walls
•Solar control: west and south-west heat gain mitigated through shading, corridors as thermal buffers, and surface treatments
•Microclimate cooling: evaporative cooling via landscape water features to support comfort during peak summer evenings

Climate analysis, passive design strategy development, solar and wind studies, natural ventilation optimisation, envelope performance assessment, and design recommendations for thermal comfort without active systems.
